Darina sought to capture the enchanting essence of a vibrant Aotearoa bush setting, where the atmosphere intertwines the fantastical with the grounded reality of nature. She endeavours to portray the wisdom of the bush and the animals living there while infusing them with playfulness. I found inspiration in my adventures in edible mushroom foraging during bush walks in New Zealand and the forests of the Czech Republic.
The world of Aotearoa mushrooms and mycelium, with its fascinating underground network that connects trees to share water and nutrients, has been a cornerstone of Her inspiration.
